Outstanding Beginning Art Educator

"Ellen goes above and beyond to foster positive relationships with all students. I must emphasize the word all.
When others may find it difficult to build a bridge with a student, she looks for creative ways to convincingly
show that she cares. She has taken her prep time to play catch with a student, planned alternative projects so
all are engaged, and is currently planning a Tiger Mural with a student who wants to give back to the school to
repair the harm done by some of their choices at a time when they were in crisis. I can confidently say that she
is a leader in ensuring that students know they are a member of the Tiger Family." - Steven Christianson Hillsboro Elementary Principal

Outstanding Elementary Art Educator

"Mandy's passion for art education is easily recognizable in her classroom. She provides students with diverse mentors, techniques, and materials with which to express themselves. The end result is that students find tremendous success in the art room; they produce impressive works of art that have expanded their creative toolkits and encouraged artistic risk-taking. The pride that students have in their artwork is evident, and Mandy's role in guiding young artists to that feeling cannot be understated. She has made the art room a place where students can strengthen their character as well their artistic talents." - Nicholas Warner 5th Grade Teacher Northern Ozaukee Elementary

Outstanding Middle Level Art Educator

"Lynnae is a nurturing and inspiring teacher. She has taught many ages and at many schools and her legacy remains her innovative lessons coupled with a deep compassion and interest in her students. Lynnae's masterful and attentive teaching leads her students to produce work that is authentically their own, with imagery pulled from their dreams, memories and collective cultural experiences" - Ronnah Metz Art Educator, Harry Spence Elementary School

Outstanding Secondary Art Educator

"Frank is truly a dedicated and motivated leader taking on additional roles and responsibilities beyond that of an everyday art instructor. His role in state level organizations, including regional leadership as the Southeastern WI regional Vice President and Statewide leadership as the Youth Art Month Chairperson for two years, put him in a network that continues to expand opportunities for our students. Aside from having one of our student's artwork proudly displayed in the state Governor's office, he increased awareness in public forums and the political arena of the continued need of focus to expand the arts in our everyday lives. His classroom work and drive to bring the 21" Century into the classroom is beyond admirable and his students recognize and appreciate the work he has done during a pandemic and beyond. In addition, Frank can be witnessed constantly striving to remain technologically advanced and relevant to insure the success of our programs through his Google Certified Educator Level 1 and the goal of Level 2 certifications. His collaboration with other members of our high school staff contributed to our school being the first in the school district to have all certified staff being Google 1 certified as well." - Dan Halvorsen Principal Fort Atkinson High School

Outstanding Higher Education

Art Educator

"Lisa is a fantastic advocate for students in the Art Education program. She recognized that the previous instability in the position created a disjointed view of the student trajectory through the university and the eventual graduation and employment as art educators. She brought together various representatives from the School of Education and coordinated this “listen and learn” session. By the accounts I have heard from students and administrators, this was a well-received event and one that is likely to be duplicated in other departments. This search for understanding has led Lisa to have a stronger advising relationship with her students." - Robert J. Dixon, PhD Co-Chair, Department of Art

Outstanding Museum Art Educator

"Sarah has centered DEAI priorities in her work at the Museum. From sharing her expertise in working with bilingual and ELL students to increasing representation of historically underrepresented BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and women artists in school tours, programs and teacher resources. She has modeled for the docents what it means to facilitate tours that are student-centered, helping them
move from “sage on the stage to guide on the side.” She now leads the Art for All docent group to promote and develop strategies and behaviors that encourage inclusivity in all school tours and programs. Through this initiative Sarah has coordinated training workshops and conversations on a diverse range of topics, including Trauma-Informed Care, institutional racism, implicit bias, engaging teens on tours, and
mindfulness." - Amy Kirschke Director of Adult, Docent and School Programs Milwaukee Art Museum

"Deborah-Eve always considers the educational and community value of teaching art, exhibiting art, and experiencing art. We are so very fortunate to have her in our department at UWL. It is my hope she will receive recognition for her dedication and vision in offering our visual art educational community greater opportunities to be exposed to and engaged with expanded authorship and voices." - . "Lisa Lenarz Assistant Professor of Art, University of Wisconsin LaCrosse

"Joelle Worm is the Director of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts (PSOA) ArtsECO program.  The ArtsECO program stands for Arts Education/Community Ecosystem.  From the website: “The program aims to develop teachers as change-makers.  Arts ECO is backed by a strong and sustainable community of arts organizations, non-profits, and K-16 school partnerships.  The program recruits and develops thoughtfully engaged, social justice oriented pre-service teachers and supports them as they grow into inspired mentors who integrate arts into the classroom.  The program develops teachers’ abilities to leverage and share the rich assets of Milwaukee and Southeastern Wisconsin.”
The reason I have included the entire Mission Statement is because it appears to have lofty goals.  It almost seems to be an impossible task, but Joelle Worm has managed to do it.  She is the ringmaster of a complicated circus.  As director of ArtsECO she has supported, mentored, and facilitated student learning by helping art teachers to create, Inspire, grow, and learn to adapt and change during a chaotic period.  She has done it well with grace, humor, understanding and an uncanny ability to assess needs."  - Dani Graf WAEA Treasurer, ArtsECO mentor

Wisconsin Art Educator of The Year

"In the classroom, Kathy inspires her students to create, think critically, and think “outside the box”. Her focus on Universal Design is a result of her commitment to ensuring that all her students are successful. She has presented workshops on Universal Design at state and national conferences, she has designed and developed adaptive tools with Universal Design and has published several articles on the importance of Universal Design. Kathy has been the “go to” person for strategies for working with our adaptive art students.

Kathy is a skilled and gifted educator constantly exploring, learning new techniques and technologies to excite and engage her students while meeting their needs. After school she worked with students in the WAEA Visioneers program where students were able to work with actual designers in completing their projects. In 2006 she served as a Visioneer Design Challenge Rep becoming VDC Co-chair 2014 - present. Recognizing the need to foster entrepreneurship in her students, Kathy started Prime Products. This was an after school program where students researched, designed, created, marketed and sold their work with their proceeds gifted back to the community. Kathy is always willing to share her experiences, strategies and ideas with her university students and colleagues, being a mentor in every sense of the word.

As a true professional educator, Kathy also willingly shares her teaching techniques, strategies and ideas. She has served NAEA - the National Art Education Association and WAEA - the Wisconsin Art Education Association at the divisional, state and national levels as a member and several leadership positions. She has presented at WAEA and NAEA conferences from 1990 to 2021, this year as Middle Level Division Director of NAEA, organizing 5 sessions and Awards Ceremony in an all virtual format. Kathy has also worked with city, state and national committees focusing on Universal Design, Common Core Standards and Entrepreneurship."
